The periodontal abscess, commonly known as a tooth abscess, is a bacterial infection caused by a pus-filled pocket. An abscess can develop for various reasons and in different areas of the tooth. A tooth abscess occurs on both sides of the tooth root and gums, whereas a periapical abscess occurs on the tip of the root.
